The William is a new concept for an electric, touch screen stove-top. I made this video to explain how it would work.

i think it is very cool but my first thoughts are these: can i place food directly onto the surface? like a grill? and how are the electronics protected from possible fluid spills? it is very cool looking tho.
First of all, excellent concept; however, I feel compelled to point out the one major flaw that cant be ignored. The burners on a standard electric stove top have an maximum energy density of about 40 watts per square inch, this drop in stove top seems to be a standard 36″ drop in. If you have a 36″ drop in the surface area is 36″ x 21″ which gives you a total of 756 square inches.
This is one of those things that would probably drive some people insane. Like those who like to cook with a beer in their hands and end up with char-broiled booze. Or the guy who stirs the spaghetti only to pick up the melted spatula he set down only a moment earlier. And lets not even think about when the baby crawls on the oven. “The oven killed my child” isn’t something the cops are gonna believe.

Why is it called The William? -_-

Very nice design concept! I hope you can bring it to fruition, as I think it would be well-received!

@liquidtunes because he was in the room

i like the idea, but i might forget that i placed a box on the stove. 3 minutes later, FWOOSH!!

make this, and make it affordable goddammit!

@shovel83 rofl. because that’s necessary when purchasing a stove and all..

@dmadosh i’m thinking no, it’s made to fit griddle pans, not griddle itsself.

@weshause Haha.. What if Red Riding Hood was in the room instead?

i guessing is going to cost between 2000 to 4000 what you think?
August 29th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
At the stated 80% utilization of 756″ sq you would have 605″ sq.
605 square inches times 40w per square inch is 24,200w
24.200w / 220v is 110amps. a standard stovetop/oven circuit is 40a
in order to carry 110amps you would need a 2 gauge copper wire.

WANT!
August 30th, 2010 at 10:01 am
While you are at it make an inductive version. That would be sweet.
August 30th, 2010 at 10:58 am
OMFG. I want this NOW!!!
August 30th, 2010 at 11:06 am
I’ll wait for the gas version…. I hate electric cooktops like this unless they are induction.
August 30th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
Talk about solving a problem that doesn’t exist.
August 30th, 2010 at 12:42 pm
Needs induction, then we can talk revolution
August 30th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
@lythand3r
Hell yeah!
August 30th, 2010 at 2:54 pm
Hell yes. Make it 36″ wide and induction, and I’m there.
